Zach Bryan Becomes First Billboard Music Awards Country Artist to Win Top New Artist

Zach Bryan made history at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, becoming the first country artist to win the coveted Top New Artist award. The singer took home four trophies on Sunday night, also claiming Top Rock Artist, Top Rock Album (for American Heartbreak), and Top Rock Song (for “Something in the Orange”).

Bryan’s win was a major moment for country music, as the genre has never been represented in the Top New Artist category before. The singer beat out a diverse field of nominees, including Bailey Zimmerman, Jelly Roll, rapper Ice Spice, and Mexican and reggaeton artist Peso Pluma.

In addition to his historic win, Bryan’s success at the BBMAs is further evidence of the growing popularity of country music. Morgan Wallen was the most-awarded artist of the night, claiming 11 trophies, and Taylor Swift was hot on his heels with 10. Zac Brown Band also won Top Country Duo/Group at the awards show.

Congratulations to Zach Bryan on his historic wins!
