Mark Chesnutt Takes Break from Touring for Health Reasons

Country music icon Mark Chesnutt recently shared a health update following his hospitalization earlier this month for undisclosed reasons. The 60-year-old singer, known for hits like “Brother Jukebox,” expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and the country music community for their support during this challenging time.

Chesnutt, who did not disclose the specific reason for his hospitalization, referred to experiencing “some extreme health issues” in his latest post. In a heartfelt message to his fans, he acknowledged a long-standing personal battle and announced his decision to take a break from touring to prioritize his health.

“To my family, friends, fans, and the country music community, many of you who know me well, know that I have been struggling with a battle that I’ve fought to overcome for many years on my own. Now, after some extreme health issues I’ve recently experienced, the time has come. The fight is over,” Chesnutt shared.

He did not provide details about the nature of the battle he has been facing but emphasized his commitment to getting healthy. Chesnutt revealed his plan to step away from the road for the next couple of months to concentrate on recovery and to spend time with his family.

“I’ll be coming off the road for the next couple of months to concentrate on getting well… to take care of me, my family, and so that I can get back out on the road, to give back to ALL of you who have shown me unconditional support, care, and love throughout my entire career,” he explained.

The honky-tonk legend assured fans of his return in February 2024 and expressed gratitude for their understanding and sensitivity to his decision. Chesnutt was admitted to the hospital on November 1, 2023, and reportedly received treatment in a critical care unit. His team confirmed the hospitalization and thanked fans for their outpouring of love, prayers, and support.

As a result of his medical issues, Chesnutt had to postpone several concerts, including shows in Henderson, Tenn., and Cedar Park, Texas. The rescheduled dates are yet to be announced. In 2021, Chesnutt underwent successful back surgery, and despite a brief hiatus, he returned to touring, performing across the country and in his home state of Texas.
